Trevor Baylis, Inventor of the Hand-Cranked Radio, DEAD @ 80
He designed a radio for people in remote communities to be able to listen to modern broadcasting without an external power source. The hand-cranked radio he designed made this possible.
Baylis experimented in the ‘90s with a tiny motor, a handcrank, and inexpensive radios to produce the BayGen Freeplay radio. By 1997 he was awarded the BBC’s Designer of the Year Award.
His inventions were not limited to just radios. Over the years he invented many things designed to help people with limited power resources.
