Russ Solomon, Founder of Tower Records DEAD @ 92
Tower records revolutionized music retailing. Solomon was the founder and visionary behind Tower Records. Wildly successful until big-box stores and then the digital revolution hit the music the industry. After two bankruptcies Tower went out of business in December 2006.
Solomon was a legend in his home town of Sacramento. As a 16 year old in 1941, he sold used jukebox records at his father's drug store in the Tower Theater building. He would call his business Tower Record Mart.
Tower eventually became a $1 billion-a-year business with outlets across the world from LA to Boston to Japan.
