Luis Bacalov, Oscar-winning composer of ‘Il Postino,’ DEAD @ 84
His compositions for 'Il Postino earned him an Oscar. He worked on a wide-ranging range of projects -- everything from blood-splattered B-movies to the music for Fellini films. He created orchestral compositions inspired by the Catholic Mass, Italian prog-rock records and a one-act opera, “The Mother Was There.” Bacalov composed ominous guitar melodies for dozens of Italian crime movies too, and spaghetti westerns were used in films by Quentin Tarantino.
