The Manson Family, a quasi-commune that arose in California, committed a series of nine murders at four locations in July and August 1969
Manson was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people. His most notable murder was that of actress Sharon Tate. Manson was also tagged for first-degree murder and was convicted in two other deaths.
Manson received a death sentence, but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment when California eliminated the death penalty in 1972. At the time of his death he was serving multiple life sentences at California State Prison in Corcoran.
