D.J. Fontana Drummer for Elvis Presley DEAD @ 87
Born Dominic Joseph Fontana, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame began playing drums in the high school marching band and was the last surviving member of Elvis' original group of core musicians.
He met Presley and the others while being the drummer on the show “Louisiana Hayride,” a popular and influential radio and TV country music show originating in Shreveport, LA beginning in 1954.
Fontana was with Presley's band for his original first wave of success including hit singles such as "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock." He was also a player on ELvis' frenzied live shows and hip-shaking appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and other many other TV programs.
