Bill Torrey, Former NY Islanders General Manager, DEAD @ 83

Known as ‘The Architect’ 

Torrey built the Islanders franchise from scratch and through his leadership rescued the the team from the brink of bankruptcy and went on to win four consecutive Stanley Cup wins from 1980-83.

He arrived in 1972 and was the first employee for the then-expansion Islanders.

He didn't stop there, he was also the first president of the Florida Panthers and built that organization into one of the most successful expansion franchises in league history.    In their third season the Panthers reached the Stanley Cup Final.  He established a team-building blueprint based upon scouting, drafting and player development stands as the model for lasting success.
