Radio Programmer Larry Berger DEAD
He made a name for himself in markets like Detroit, New York, and San Francisco. In my native New York he was best known for developing one of the first AOR stations, beginning in 1974, when he was program director of WPLJ. Under his leadership the station became CHR as Power 95 in the early 80's.
In so many ways, WPLJ showed the rest of the country how it's done. Progressive rock fans hated the station and stayed with competitor WNEW-FM, but the station that got booed at concerts clean up in the ratings.
