John Ziegler Jr, Former NHL president DEAD @ 84

He was the fourth president in NHL history and the first American to oversee the league. Ziegler was responsible for the growth of the league expanding it from 18 to 24 teams, beginning in 1979 which included four teams from the WHA (World Hockey Association).

His tenure ended as NHL president ended when he and the league got embroiled in a 10-day strike initiated by the NHL Players Association in 1994.
