Actor R. Lee Ermey DEAD @ 74

Best known for his role in ‘Full Metal Jacket.’


He was a former Marine Corps drill instructor in Vietnam  and he used his military experience and served as a technical adviser in Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam War epic, “Apocalypse Now.” He was briefly seen in the film as a helicopter pilot.  It was nine years later that he was cast in Stanley Kubricks Vietnam film Full Metal Jacket.  He was nominated for a Golden Globe for that performance.

Ermey appeared in more than 60 films, hosted two shows on the History Channel, and was a voice actor heard on “Family Guy,” “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “The Simpsons.”
